PeriShip’s Service and Resources Make All the Difference for Two Distinct Clients
When an entrepreneur turns their passion into a business, oftentimes they find themselves having to place some aspect of their success into the hands of one or more partners. Choosing the wrong partner can be disastrous and turn their dream into a waking nightmare. Choosing the right partner, however, can be one of the most satisfying decisions you can make. In PeriShip, multiple clients have found the latter, including Milkify and Vincent’s Meat Market. Periship’s service and resources make all the difference.
Two Very Different Clients
Viewers of Shark Tank may recall that in 2023, Dr. Berkley Luck and her husband, Pedro Silva, landed a deal with Lori Greiner and Gwyneth Paltrow. Luck and Silva, the founders of Milkify, established the company in 2019 to provide a freeze-drying service, making breast milk easier to store and use. Still, the model requires breast milk to be sent to Milkify’s facilities. Enter PeriShip.
“On any given day, we didn’t have a good idea of how many packages were coming our way because our customers decide when they want to ship,” Silva said. “We also didn’t have any visibility on when there was an issue. When a package was stuck in Memphis or if it was moving with a two-day delay, we didn’t know. We didn’t have a good system for checking every single individual tracking link in the inbox and felt like we were being reactive rather than proactive.”
Vincent’s Meat Market opened in 1954 on 187th Street in the Bronx, part of chasing the American Dream for Italian immigrant Vincent DeLuca. After Vincent passed away in 1979, his son, Peter, took charge of the operation. In 1981, he moved the market to its current home on Arthur Ave., very near the original location. Today, Vincent’s Meat Market serves more than just the boroughs of New York City. Vincent’s now ships its hand-cut selections overnight across the nation.
“Before PeriShip, we were not shipping perishable cuts of meat,” said Vincent’s Meat Market’s Director of Online Sales Kenny Roopchand. “Sandra’s insights and advice helped us find distributors for packaging materials and also helped us to understand industry standards. She was instrumental in getting us set up to start perishable shipping. We would’ve been lost without PeriShip’s guidance.”
The “Sandra” that Roopchand referenced is one of PeriShip’s sales and business development representatives. Service above and beyond is something that Roopchand and Silva referred to repeatedly when discussing their relationships with PeriShip.
Responsiveness Matter
Silva recalls several times Milkify client shipments were saved thanks to PeriShip’s in-house meteorological team advising of delays before sending packages for processing. Other instances have included clients mistyping an address, resulting in a shipment potentially being spoiled because it was set to be delivered to an incorrect address.
“I think my favorite part of PeriShip is the support team’s responsiveness,” Silva said. “I will send an email, and within 10 minutes, I will have a response. The team has already taken action to correct an address, reach out to a customer, or take necessary actions to make sure packages arrive on time. In short, PeriShip has greatly improved the reliability of our shipping system and our visibility into those shipments, making us operationally more efficient. Perhaps more importantly, the overall customer experience is significantly better because our customers feel like we have full control of shipping operations. That increases their confidence in our service as a business.”
According to Roopchand, Vincent’s Meat Market’s partnership with PeriShip has made a difference in aspects of brand identity and clients’ memories.
“I believe it was the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. We have a cut-off time for the holidays, and a customer’s order was not moving through the system,” Roopchand recalled. “PeriShip sent a third-party courier to go to the FedEx station, locate the package inside the FedEx terminal, and then deliver it to the customer to make their Thanksgiving happen. PeriShip completely saved a customer who otherwise would’ve forever known us as the company that ruined their Thanksgiving.”
For Milkify, Silva believes PeriShip’s resources improve its customers’ experiences. Customers are impressed when they are reached out to before even knowing a possible delay is looming or receive a call addressing how delays are being managed.
“It just makes them feel much better about the service, and I would say that translates into more Google reviews about how reliable our shipping is, which actually increases our conversion rate,” Silva said. “Shipping is traditionally the biggest single source of anxiety that might prevent someone from becoming our client. Having a reliable system for operations, and everyone can tell that it’s reliable, is critically important for us.”
As Much Peace of Mind as Possible
By and large, business owners don’t tend to rest on their laurels. They don’t take time to relax much and are always on guard. Ultimately, that is the primary benefit PeriShip provides on various levels, while also helping improve the bottom line. For Roopchand, PeriShip’s weather reporting is a peace of mind enhancer.
“PeriShip helps us make decisions as business owners and tells us when it is risky to ship,” Roopchand said. “Not this last year, but the last few years, there was always a snowstorm before Christmas, and that’s our busiest time of the year. Knowing which hubs are going to be affected, which stations will be able to ship through without the product disappearing into a complete black hole. Having that information and getting it from PeriShip’s meteorologists has resulted in tremendous savings. PeriShip’s unique technological capabilities, combined with unparalleled service, give us peace of mind.”
“If I send an email to PeriShip with a customer request, I can go home and I don’t even have to check my email to see if the request was acknowledged,” Silva said. “Once I send a request, I know it’s going to get taken care of because the team has just been so fantastic about their follow-through. Their proprietary approach, combined with their customer service, makes it such a great solution for us.”
